BOOK UNDERCONSTRUCTION

With texts by Paul Goodwin, Manuela Ribeiro Sanches, Plataforma Artigo 65 and Artéria Arquitectura, Photos by Mónica de Miranda and Design by MusaWorkLab

From Toxteth to Brick Lane, from Sarcelles to Lisbon, migrants and cultural minorities have participated in the creation of their own urban worlds; their own urbanisms that exist within and are intertwined with the broader context of society. There is no single experience of city life. Until now these emergent urbanisms – subaltern, underground, excluded – have been largely understood through the ideologically loaded prism of the ghetto. This concept has limited our understanding of not only how these spaces are produced but also what they represent and signify; in other words, their complexity and diversity.
